About Sahul

The name

Sahul is the Ice-Age continent. When the seas were lower, Australia, Tasmania and New Guinea were one connected landmass, and Sahul is what geologists call it. We liked it for two reasons: it is a very Australian name for a very Australian project — and it is the land that joined separate places into one. That is the whole idea here: the scattered pieces of the hobby — the collection spreadsheet, the list builder, the club Facebook group, the tournament site, the rules wiki — joined into one place.

Who makes it

One person: John Cook, in Australia, in his own time. No company, no team, no funding — which cuts both ways. The upside: nothing here needs to make money off you, so nothing here is designed to. The honest flipside: it's one person's project, so treat it like any tool you rely on and keep your own copy of the irreplaceable stuff.

It also stands on years of other people's unpaid work — the release catalogues, the wikis, the transcriptions. People are credited only where they have specifically said yes: credits.

Your data is yours

Privacy, security and respect for your data are design principles here, not a settings page. No tracking, no analytics, no ads, nothing sold — and you are in charge of what's yours: Settings has a Download my data button that hands you everything in one file, no questions asked. The privacy policy is short because there isn't much to confess.

Where the publishers stand

Sahul is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any games publisher. Where a publisher's material is involved we ask first rather than apologise later — which is why some things we have already built are not shown yet.
